Fender’s stylish Marcus Miller Jazz Bass guitar is soulful and astounding, too. It has an ash body, distinctive black pickguard/control plate and one-piece C-shaped maple neck with a 7.25”-radius maple fingerboard featuring white binding, white pearl block inlays and a satin finish (gloss finish on the headstock, plus Miller’s signature). Tonal magic comes from a pair of vintage-style Jazz Bass single-coil pickups; the two-band active EQ has an active/passive mini-toggle switch. The Fender P Bass is the original electric bass. The P Bass shape is an absolute classic, popular with bassists from the 50's through to the current day - the Fender P Bass never goes out of fashion. The Standard model is made in Fenders Hi-Tec Mexican guitar plant. Fenders Mexican plant is fantastic - it builds guitars that compete price wise with most Far Eastern made guitars, and yet the plant is overseen daily by the Fender USA based management team - despite being in another country they are in fact only about 4-5 hours drive away in California! The guitars & basses that come out of the Mexican plant are great quality and superb value.
The Standard P Bass features the classic split coil pickup that is great for any kind of Rock/Blues sound - it really thuds along. Compared to some modern style basses the Fender P Bass does have quite a large body which perhaps doesn't lend itself to younger/smaller bass players. However, if you're OK with the size, the Fender Standard P Bass its an absolute winner.
